MISSION STATEMENT

We strive to demonstrate that STEM is integral to East Mountain High School students not just competitively during high school but as lessons learned they take with them as they journey to college and beyond.

TEAM HISTORY & GROWTH

The team is based in the East Mountains at East Mountain High School, a small public charter school in New Mexico. This team was created in late 2018 by Marie Booth (a teacher at East Mountain High School) and was originally called Sandia Singularities. With its limited resources, the team built a robot and successfully competed in Amarillo and El Paso with 14 students. Building on this success, the team connected with its community by displaying STEM activities at several events, such as the Air and Space Fiesta and a summer camp at EMHS. The pandemic shut down schools in New Mexico for two years. just after the team was created, leaving our students with no after school activities. In 2022 our four seniors each took the lead in all four aspects of FRC (mechanical, electric, business, and programming) and we moved into the Teen Tech Center at Manzano High school. The team returned with over 25 students ready to bring more success back to our small community and our seniors started College with plans to mentor once they graduate. In 2023 we moved into a larger portable at the Teen Tech Center and we now have more mentors and students than ever before. Mentors Marie Booth and Marcus Martin started teaching a robotics class elective at East Mountain High school and hope that helps create a pipeline of robotics students for this program.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Our team operates with two student team leads and four student leads of mechanical, electrical, programming, and business. We continue to form a presence within our high school, showing all students that we are an important part of the school’s sports and activities program. During our off season the team runs our FRC summer camp program to maintain a flow of interest in FRC and to promote STEM. We developed a FLL and a FLL jr. DISCOVERY summer camps to launch this year. We also plan to start an FTC team of our very own. We hope this brings more awareness about FIRST and the multiple levels of robotics opporunities it offers to our community.
